Airbnb's Host Protection Does Not Replace Home Insurance

A regular misconception among Airbnb hosts is that The Host Damage Protection is effectively an insurance replacement. Whilst it covers certain aspects, such as any damages incurred from a valid booking, there are lots of things that it doesn't cover.

What cover do I need for my Airbnb?

If you already have a property listed with Airbnb or plan to soon, here's an overview of the insurance you might want to consider

This is partially covered by the Airbnb Host Damage Protection, but this only insures you for liability that is directly related to your guests and their invitees during their stay at your property.

Once again, the Airbnb Host Damage Protection covers you against any damage that is related to your booking, but it won't cover any damage to your property if this isn't caused by a guest. For example, you wouldn't be able to claim if a storm caused damage, even if an Airbnb guest was staying at the property when the damage was caused.

This will enable you to claim back a proportion of booking costs you'd otherwise lose if you were unable to host for an extended period. This would cover you against commonly insured events, such as a burst pipe in your property.

Contents of your property are covered by the Airbnb Host Damage Protection, but once again, this is only applicable for accidents that occur by those who are booked guests. It's always best to have separate contents insurance in case of any accidents such as floods, fire damage or storms.
